The British wall piece of the 18th century was an oversized musket intended for use in fixed/fortified positions and to be fired from a mount, being too heavy to use unsupported. The weapon had an increased range over the musket, but of course, still lacked accuracy. The calibre of 0.98 in (British Military Firearms 1650 -1850, Blackmore) fired a round shot of 0.89 in (The Bombardier and the Pocket Gunner, Adye, 1802).
